Walk the streets of colonial-era Jakarta in Jakarta Old Town. Dubbed “The Jewel of Asia” by European sailors, the area developed to become the headquarters of the Dutch East India company, and the capital of the Dutch East Indies. Many notable historical sites line the streets of this recently rejuvenated district, which sports a number of museums and original architectural features. As a former center of trade and governance, the Old Town offers plenty of interesting attractions for visitors keen on political, maritime, and commercial history.
